Westby Racing Announces Continuing Partnership With Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A.
Tulsa, OK – December 11, 2019 – Westby Racing is proud to announce that, for 2020, the road racing team—which competes in the MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Championship—will continue their long-standing partnership with Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. (YMUS).
Officially formed in 2014 when Dane Westby was the team’s rider aboard a Yamaha YZF-R6, Westby Racing’s partnership with YMUS resulted in three Supersport wins for Dane on the R6 in 2014. Josh Day notched three Superstock 1000 wins aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1 in 2015. And, thus far in his career with Westby Racing Yamaha, Mathew Scholtz’s 10 wins in Superstock 1000 in 2017 netted him the class championship, plus he has also earned two Superbike victories as well as the 2018 Superbike Rookie of the Year Award.
The Westby Racing Yamaha Superbike team will be back for 2020 with Mathew Scholtz aboard the new 2020 Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike.
Commenting on Yamaha’s partnership with Westby Racing, YMUS Roadrace Team Supervisor Tom Halverson said, “Since 2014, Yamaha has had a close relationship with Westby Racing. That season, Dane Westby finished third in the AMA Pro Racing Daytona Sportbike class on an R6 and was destined to be one of the legends in the sport. After Dane left us and we heard that his father Tryg was going to continue racing in Dane’s honor and memory, we at Yamaha thought the world of that decision. Dane’s spirit has lived on, and we have been honored to support the team for the past six years.
“The passion, attitude, and commitment that the team has brought to the MotoAmerica paddock has been exceptional, and we are excited to continue our support for the team in 2020 and beyond. We are very happy to see them bring back Mathew Scholtz in 2020. Mathew is a fierce competitor as well as a great ambassador for our sport. He has a great team behind him and no doubt will be a threat going into the new season.”
Westby Racing team owner and patriarch Tryg Westby said, “It all started with Dane, and he had a lot of success aboard the Yamaha. From there, the success has continued, and we’re proud to keep Dane’s legacy alive through our continued partnership with Yamaha. We appreciate Yamaha’s faith in us and their support of our racing program. We’re looking forward to more success for Westby Racing Yamaha with our rider Mathew Scholtz in 2020 and beyond.”
